Dr. Cui Peiyi from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) visited our college
On May 20, Dr. Cui Peiyi from CUHK and her delegation were invited to visit our college for inspection and exchange. They were accompanied by Assoc. Prof. Huang Wen, Dr. Wei Fen and Secretary of Youth League Committee of College Huang Xueyong. Dean Yu Kefu extended a warm welcome to their visiting.
Dr. Cui Peiyi visited the Guangxi Laboratory on the Study of Coral Reefs in the SCS, Island and Reef Ecological Restoration Laboratory, and the Marine Science and Education Museum. Assoc. Prof. Huang Wen explanted and introduced our work, emphasizing that we have closely follow the national strategy of “seeking national prosperity and strength from the ocean”. He also highlighted our series of initiatives in ecological restoration, marine scientific expeditions, public science outreach, and support for National Island Building Projects in the SCS. Dr. Cui and her team highly affirmed and praised the work we did.
On May 21, Dr. Cui Peiyi and her team visited Weizhou Island where they conducted an on-site inspection of the laboratory's coastal base and the coral reef ecological restoration area. Li Yuxiao, research assistant of the Coral Reef Museum on Wezhou island, introduced the museum construction, scientific research and popular science, including ecological monitoring of the coral reefs on Weizhou Island, construction and maintenance of coral nurseries, and coral reef ecological restoration. In the afternoon, Dr. Cui Peiyi and her team personally went underwater to inspect the coral breeding base and coral reef ecological restoration nursery on Weizhou Island. They witnessed the remarkable results of the laboratory in coral reef restoration, and highly praised our college's achievements in coral reef protection, research and restoration. During this visit, the two sides also had in-depth exchanges on the results and related experiences of coral sexual reproduction. They express they would further strengthen relevant cooperation in the field of scientific research and jointly promote the innovation and development of coral reef ecological restoration in China.
This exchange deepened the friendship between the School of Life Sciences CUHK and the School of Marine Sciences at Guangxi University in the field of coral reef research and laid a foundation for future collaboration. The two sides will work together to promote the prosperity and development of coral reef research and industry in China, and contribute greater strength.
