Our faculty and students participate “The 9th Youth Geoscience Forum” in Xiamen

From May 17 to 20, 2024, 10 faculty members and students from our college attended “The 9th Youth Geoscience Forum” in Xiamen. Hosted by the Youth Geoscience Forum Council, co-hosted by the State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Science of Xiamen University, The Institute of Urban Environment of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Third Institute of Oceanography, the forum took the theme of "The Book of Land and Sea, Shared by Youth".

A total of 9 teachers and students from our college delivered 10 oral reports, details are as follows:

Assoc. Prof. Liang Jiayuan (Department of Marine Biology and Ecology): The potential role of symbiotic Bacteria in Pocillopora sp. in coral during High-Temperature Stress

Assoc. Prof. Zhang Ruijie (Department of Marine Environment and Chemistry):

a. Black Carbon in Deep-Sea Seamount Sediment Cores: Vertical Variation and Non-negligible Char Black Carbon.

b. Increase in Agricultural-Derived NHx and Decrease in Coal Combustion-Derived NOx Result in Atmospheric Particulate N-NH4+ Surpassing N-NO3- in the South China Sea

Assoc. Prof. Wang Liwei (Department of Marine Environment and Chemistry): Rapid tracker and outbreak warning methods for the Crown-of-Thorns Starfish in the SCS

Assoc. Prof. Pan Changgui (Department of Marine Environment and Chemistry): Parabens and their metabolite in a subtropical marine benthic-dominated food web: occurrence, trophic transfer and health risk assessment

Assoc. Prof. Su Hongfei (Department of Marine Biology and Ecology): Research on the culture test of probiotics for coral and coral disease resistance mechanism.

Asst. Prof. Yu Xiaopeng (Department of Marine Biology and Ecology): Study on the impact of acclimatization on thermal adaptation of scleractinian coral.

Assoc. Prof. Zuo Xiuling (Department of Physical Oceanography and Remote Sensing): Review of Coral Reef Resources and Environment in the South China Sea.

Assoc. Prof. Wang Guanghua (Department of Marine Biology and Ecology): Changes of scleractinian coral communities in the Daya Bay in the last 40 years

MA student. Zhang Wenqian: Evaluate the interannual accuracy of multiple long-term reconstruction datasets of terrestrial water storage based on multi-source data

MA student. Ren Tianfei: Global multi-scale spatiotemporal patterns and the mechanisms of impact of marine heatwaves and cold waves in coral reef regions

The forum brought together over 6,000 experts, scholars and young students to discuss cutting-edge research in the field of Earth Science. The conference covered 20 earth science topics and 280 extended subtopics. Our faculty and students engaged in extensive view-exchanging with young experts and scholars from various institutions and fields. The scientific research achievements and comprehensive strength of our college were fully demonstrated, and the reputation of the college and university was enhanced.
